Case Study: Nor'easter Roof Breach Flooded an Old Greenwich Home, CT

70mph winds during a January nor'easter ripped shingles off this Old Greenwich home, allowing wind-driven rain to saturate the attic and pour through three rooms below. We tarped immediately and ran parallel water mitigation.

Storm damage water intrusion after nor'easter in Old Greenwich CT

The Project Story

The nor'easter hit Old Greenwich at midnight. By 3am the homeowner was watching water stream down their living room walls. The storm was still active when they called us.

Working in active weather is a different operation than post-storm response. Our crew arrived (55 minutes later) with safety harnesses and emergency tarps designed to deploy in wind. The roof breach was clear from inside — a section of shingles had lifted on the windward side, exposing roof decking that was already sodden.

Step one was the roof tarp — done within the first 90 minutes despite the active wind. Step two was interior water mitigation: extraction in three affected rooms, sourceless ceiling cuts to drain trapped water, and immediate equipment setup.

The attic insulation was a total loss — it had wicked moisture across the entire space. We removed it, sprayed antimicrobial on the rafters and decking, and ran dehumidifiers through the attic for 5 days.

Drywall in two rooms required full replacement — moisture had reached structural framing. Day 11 the home was dry, painted, and rebuilt.

It was 3 in the morning during the worst nor'easter in years. They came. They tarped the roof while it was still raining. I cannot recommend them enough.
