Case Study: Sump-Pump Failure Flooded a Belle Haven Basement, Greenwich CT

The homeowner called our 24/7 line at 4:17am after waking to the sound of running water in the basement. Their primary sump pump had stopped during the overnight storm — and without a battery backup, the pit overflowed within hours.

By the time we arrived (47 minutes after the call), the finished basement had 3 inches of standing Category 1 clean water across roughly 800 square feet. Our priority on arrival was source verification (was the pump still off? was the discharge line clear?), then immediate extraction.

We deployed two truck-mounted extractors — together moving more than 500 gallons per minute. Within the first 90 minutes the standing water was gone. Then we mapped the moisture profile of every wall and floor area with FLIR thermal imaging and pinless meters, identifying hidden saturation that wouldn't have been visible to a less-equipped crew.

Drying ran for 5 days with 4 LGR dehumidifiers and 12 air movers, monitored daily. On day 6 every test point hit IICRC clearance targets and we removed equipment.
